Bruno, what’s your relationship with sneakers?
I think I started out just buying them with no real attachment. But today, I can see that they all tell a story. Each sneaker has a cultural background and some insane reference. So, I think that’s it, whenever I put on a pair of sneakers it’s always for a reason, it’s never a random decision, it’s never because I was lazy. For example, if I’m going to a specific party, I’ll put on sneakers that has to do with that party, when I go to a wedding I put on sneakers that match the context of that wedding, I’ll put on something that matches how I’m feeling, my mood, my spirit.
I think it has a lot to do with your identity, so for the last two to three years I can’t buy anything else beside sneakers.
And what’s your relationship with this Air force?
I have this white Air Force for four years now, I actually bought them because I wanted something that would go with any of my clothes. It felt really comfortable right from the start, and because they look a bit bulky on your feet, and not so thin. Later on, I looked up its story, and googled it, and found that there were other models and colorways. That was basically it for me, i just wanted a sneaker that I could put on, on every occasion. And it was with this one, that my story with sneakers began.
And after this specific pair of air force ones, I couldn’t wear any other shoe (laughs). I had other models like those Cavalera’s casual shoes, that I wore because the company I worked for required a more formal look. But when I got the Air force, I couldn’t really use anything else, it was actually pretty strange. (laughs)
It was so, that now I own two more just like these because they’re like my uniform, they became part of me. I only were other sneaker on special occasions that requires something more specific. But these right here, I don’t even think, I just wake up and put them on.
Do you have any specific story to tell with them?
I’m going to tell a very recent one: I went to Salvador for Carnaval for the first time, and when I looked at all my sneakers I thought “the only ones that could withstand Salvador’s carnaval are these right here” (laughs). And they did! It was 3 “trios”, 2 “blocos” and 5 days right in the middle of it all, and they are still standing.
