“My name is Marcelo, 28 years old and I manage a company in the Cosmetic business – a perfume importer and distributor.  For me, collecting sneakers is a hobby, I like it a lot. I’ve always collected stuff, and now I’m collecting sneakers. sneakers I have this culture around them that I really like,  it helps me get rid of my day to day stress, and also to get that feeling of achievement.”

Do you know the exact moment when you realize that you really loved sneakers?

I’d say it happened through different stages: there was a moment in my life where I love collecting cards,  then there was another time when I love collecting stickers, I had different phases. But I think it was just an object that I always really liked, especially because I play basketball, and because I played for I would watch the Players rocking all the best sneakers,  the dopest and coolest ones, and that has always really inspired me.

But at the end of 2015, I just fell in love with Adidas, and I’ve been focused on their sneakers ever since.

UNTIL IT GOT TO A POINT WHERE I HAD LIKE A HUNDRED AND FIFTY SNEAKERS BUT I WAS WEARING NOT EVEN 20% OF MY COLLECTION. I REALIZED I HAD A TON OF SNEAKERS THAT I WAS BARELY USING. SO I STARTED SEPARATING THE ONES THAT I LIKED FROM THE ONE THAT I REALLY LOVED. SO TODAY I’M WAY MORE SELECTIVE I ONLY BUY THOSE THAT I AM REALLY GOING TO WEAR.

You mentioned that 80% of your collection is only Adidas, why is that?

I started sympathizing with the brand when they release the NMDs at the end of 2015. Right before they release the NMDs they had just released the Ultra boost, which I thought were only for performance, and since I was working more than anything else,  I was only buying lifestyle shoes, and at the time Ultra Boost was only a performance model to me. When I first saw the NMDs I said: ” whoa, nice-looking shoe, it has all this history, it’s a new take on an old Adidas sneaker”, so I really liked the NMDs and I started buying them. Right after came the Yeezy boost,  I didn’t get the first one like the 750 OG or the Turtle Doves, or any of the other colorways that released at the time. My first actual Yeezy sneaker was the Pirate Black.

After that I started focusing only on collaboration – I would get anything that Adidas would drop in collaboration, whether it was with Invincible or Sneakersnstuff, but only on NMDs or Ultra Boosts.  That was all I was focusing on, and my collection started to grow more and more.

But you didn’t wear them just so you could have a lot of them,  or because you felt bad on wearing them out?

It’s a problem I have. I feel really bad about wearing out my sneakers or getting them dirty. I got my NMD OG in Dubai, I was in the shopping mall there and the lady from the store said: ” sneaker right here sold out worldwide,  I got just a few pairs left can I save that they might just hit you”. I put them on and I thought they looked really good, so I got them.  I only tried them on in the store, and when I got back I felt bad on wearing them, especially knowing how much they were worth back then. I had to get five of the same sneakers, so at one point, I had six of them, just so I could finally wear them. There are Sneakerhead that wears their sneakers right out of the store. But I’m not like that, to me they’re like trophies.

What Adidas are you focusing on right now?

The 4Ds. They are a model that really fit me, my style and my feet. They weren’t that comfortable right at first, because they’re really tight and firmer than the ultra boost. I remember the first time when I wore the 4Ds  back in February of last year in Dallas, I went for a walk and I had to keep taking them off because they were so tight. But later on I got used to it, and once they’ve broken then I really started buying more model. I got all the 4Ds hey that dropped last year.

And out of all your collection,  why did you pick the Adidas Consortium Futurecraft 4D Onyx “Friends and Family”?

I always dreamed of having them someday. I saw Adidas Global relations director,  Jon Wexlerwearing them during an event.  When I saw his post with the sneaker I thought right away that I needed to have one, but he was very clear on his subtitles this shoe was friends and family only. as far as I knew at the time, these sneakers were given only for partners of the Consortium line worldwide –  that means only friends and Adidas artists had access to the sneaker. It was a dream at this time, it was so cool and I really like the color as well.

Through a plug I had in Poland,  a sneakerhead friend of mine, I managed to buy the sneaker. He said, ” this is the only pair I have do you want to buy it?” I didn’t think twice and transferred half of the money right away, Michael Jackson and the other half I transferred later on.  I’m not going to lie, Pence was the most I ever spent on a pair of sneakers.

Two or three months later,  Adidas release the shoe for retail. The sneaker had some slight changes but you could barely tell. At the time it was worth $2.000, $2,500 bucks, but it dropped to $600.  But I really don’t regret it, I had that amount at that time. This sneaker was one of my best accusations from last year and that’s why it’s so special to me.
