Marcos Di Giaimo
Interview # 72

Marcos Di Giaimo is an adman, but first of all he is a skater. The vast majority of his sneakers are for skateboarding and his collection revolves around the lifestyle. He told us more about his connection with the culture and especially the strong relationship he has with @essboardboarding sneakers.

“My name is Marcos, I’m 27 years old, and before anything else, I’m a skateboarder, I do advertising and I work in an agency, and basically I have a lot of skateboarding sneakers.”

Marcos, what’s your relationship with sneakers in general?

MarcosTo me sneakers are all about someone’s style, it’s the beginning of everything – when I’m getting ready to go out I first think about which sneakers I’m going to wear. It will depend on my mood, what I’m going to do next if it’s going to rain, so sneakers are basically where my day starts. Then I put on my shirt and the rest, if it’s not going with the sneakers, I change it.

Also, I always think if those sneakers will be good for skateboarding, when I buy them I usually don’t ride with them right away. Sneakers are a way of expressing yourself, who am I? I’m a skater, so that’s is what I want most of my sneakers to express.

Tell us a little bit more about how you came to like sneakers so much.

marcosI’m into sneakers since I was a kid, even before I started skating, when I was about 10 or 11 years old. Before, I played ball and since then I would go nuts for Kelmes, which was the sneaker to play soccer in that every kid wanted, I had an old school Nike Air Max as well. What I would usually ask for Christmas and birthdays were sneakers.

And why did you choose this éS Accelerate for this photoshoot?

marcosFirst, because éS is my favorite sneaker brand, I started skateboarding because of them – they had the sickest skateboard crew back in the early 2000s and I had the Koston 3 that was by far the sneakers I liked the most my whole life. But then they took some time out of the market, they had a 7-year creative break and returned in 2014, which was right about the same time I was living in Los Angeles. It was following all their Instagram posts and teasers saying that on February 14, Valentine’s Day, they would come back.

This day I left class earlier to go to the mall and they were still carrying out the boxes, so I grabbed one for me – I was one of the first people to buy one after the brand had come back. This Accelerate is inspired by the Accel, which is one of their most classic models; this colorway was the one that ran out the fastest.

My biggest relationship with them is that I got them the day they dropped, I gave them to myself as a Valentine’s Day present. Since they’re special sneakers to me, I end up using them only for important moments, if I think there’s a chance that’s gonna rain, no fucking way I’m putting them on. I’m not one of those who takes really good care of their sneakers, that has a brush for each sneaker, but this one I don’t just use them for anything.
